Einav Symons is the new Religious School Director at Congregation Shir Shalom who is beginning the year with a ton of new ideas and initiatives. Her primary focus is on Hebrew proficiency and Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation. They will be tracking students’ progress through video recordings which will be shared with the parents. She is also embarking on a multi-year project focusing on Jewish history from biblical time to the present, where students will be exploring primary sources and specific historical periods of interest.
Einav is most excited to launch LIMMUD BUFFALO, which is a new initiative started as a response to parents’ wish for more opportunities to study when their children are at Hebrew school. The program is continuing to evolve as interest grows. The Gemara (Avoda Zarah 19a) teaches that a person should always learn the Torah topic that his heart desires. Limmud Buffalo, along with other courses in the community, is helping to fulfill this by providing lots of opportunities to meet people’s desires and schedules.
