Our community spotlight this week shines on Samantha (Sam) Sugarman, the new Director for Jewish Life and Learning at the Jewish Community Center. A professional vocalist, recording artist, and songwriter, Sam returns to Buffalo after pursuing her music career in New York. Sam and her husband Nick Stevens were married this past Labor Day weekend and when she returns from her honeymoon will begin full time at the JCC on September 16th.
Sam’s journey to this position has been marked by a deep-seated dedication to Jewish values and a desire to make a meaningful impact wherever she goes. “On a personal note, I first met Sam as a young child in the JCC’s Children’s Theater Workshop,” shares Cantor Mark Horowitz, the JCC’s Chief Operations Officer, “so her return to the JCC and as my colleague is incredibly special. On a professional note, Sam’s multi-faceted set of talents, her commitment to Jewish life and ongoing learning and her connection to the Jewish community are some of the reasons we are so excited about her joining us in this new role.”
Sam’s appointment marks a new chapter filled with promise and innovation, where the rich tapestry of Jewish culture meets the vibrant spirit of Buffalo. Understanding the importance of building bridges within and beyond the Jewish community, Sam will be looking to foster understanding and dialogue across diverse backgrounds. preschoolers to seniors, Sam aims to create spaces where everyone can feel at home and inspired. “The JCC is strengthening its commitment to integrate Jewish life and learning across our program activities,” adds JCC CEO Patty Simonson. “We are excited that Sam returned to Buffalo and to the JCC as she lead’s the charge with her talent, passion and creativity.”
