Erica Brecher

Today we cast our spotlight on Erica Brecher, Buffalo Jewish Federation’s new Senior Director of Communications. Erica brings a rich and varied background in storytelling and communications in this new role leading communication strategy, strengthening brand identity, building media relationships, and fostering collaboration with partners and community leaders.

“Erica brings a treasure trove of experience to this role at a moment when Jewish Buffalo needs leadership voices that confront difficult truths, elevate the beauty of Jewish life, and shape language that keeps our community both visible and secure” notes Federation CEO Miriam Abramovich.

A graduate of Penn State University, Erica spent a decade in local news broadcasting—first at WETM-TV in Elmira, then in Buffalo at WGRZ-TV as a reporter and multimedia journalist, and later as an anchor and reporter for WIVB-TV. Along the way, she honed her skills in photography, videography, live programming, and building trusted brands.

After starting a family, Erica transitioned into a corporate role with Excelsior Orthopedics, where for four years she served as Marketing & Communications Coordinator. She partnered with leadership and staff across the organization, managing everything from print and digital marketing to social media, website oversight, community partnerships, and media outreach.

Erica’s connection to Federation began in 2023 when she joined the Momentum cohort of Moms. Although their trip to Israel was canceled in the wake of October 7, she found in the experience a renewed connection to Jewish community and to women across Buffalo.

“For as much of our lives as we spend working, I feel strongly that my work should be rooted in purpose and helping others,” Erica shared. “For years, I have recognized Western New York influencers lack Jewish voices and that the region generally lacks Jewish awareness and education. I am inspired by the Federation’s current leadership and team, and I am so excited to work with them on raising Jewish Buffalo’s voice.

Originally from Randolph, New Jersey, Erica has called Western New York home for more than 11 years. She and her husband live in Ken-Ton with their two children.

Erica will lead the conversation with Jonah Platt at the Annual Campaign Kickoff Event on Tuesday, September 16 at the UB Center for the Arts. Click HERE to register.
