America 250 Concert and Opening Celebrate 250 Years of Jewish Life in America Join the Jewish Museum of Buffalo on Thursday, August 27, from 6:00–9:00 PM for the opening celebration of America 250: The Jewish American Story, an evening honoring 250 years of Jewish contributions to the American experience. Guests will experience the debut of the museum’s new historical exhibition alongside Patrimony, a contemporary exhibition by Buffalo artist Noah Breuer. The evening also includes family-friendly art activities and a musical journey through American history—from the Revolutionary era to today—inside Temple Beth Zion’s world-renowned sanctuary, designed by American architect Max Abramovitz. Narrated by Buffalo broadcasting legend Rich Newberg, the performance brings together classical, folk, klezmer, jazz, Broadway, and contemporary music with historical readings and poetry, illuminating the enduring contributions of Jewish Americans to the nation’s cultural story. Since 2007, the Jewish Soldiers Project has been sending care packages to Jews in the military for Rosh Hashanah. The packages include honey cakes, cookies, grape juice, and challah to help the soldiers celebrate L’Shana Tova. Baked goods are needed for this! They need not be Kosher, but purchased kosher baked goods are accepted too. Please drop off at TBT. No amount is too big or small!
With the plight of the hungry and homeless before us, let us enter into Yom Kippur by engaging in Tikkun Olam - repairing the world. Operation Isaiah is a national campaign conducted by The United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism created to address the issue of hunger and the need to help those in the Jewish community that struggle with food insecurity. We will approach this important initiative by accepting non-perishable food donations on the same days as Mahzor pickup at Temple Beth Tzedek. Food donations should be new, packaged, non-perishable items in bags or boxes that can be easily handed to a volunteer who will accept your donation. If you prefer, grocery store gift cards will be accepted. Our goal is 100% participation. PLUS Pick up a High Holiday Mahzor to borrow for the holidays L’Shana Tovah – G’mar Chatimah Tovah.
