Creating Connections in Israel and in Buffalo

In a few short days, 50 individuals from all across Jewish Buffalo (and beyond) will hop on a plane to kick off the second iteration of the Buffalo Israel Experience (BIE). They will travel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv to our sister region in the Western Galilee, immersing themselves in Israel’s history and culture and exploring new ways of creating community and reimagining Jewish identity. Together, they will enjoy a great travel experience in Israel with fellow Buffalonians who will become dear friends.

A unique element of the BIE is the opportunity for participants to create deep connections with each other. One of the ways this occurs is through small groups called Garinim (which is a Hebrew word that means seeds). Before heading to Israel, each traveler was slotted into a small group. Garinim groups have had several opportunities to meet and get to know one other through activities led by our incredible Garinim Leaders.

During the trip, Garinim leaders will play an important role, responsible for regular group check-ins, as a go to for questions, and to help fellow travelers form deeper connections with one another. Federation is thankful to Robin Raphael and Alan Gellin (BIE co-chairs), Marina Maulucci Finkelstein, Ira Nadel, Ezra Rich and Wendy Weisbrot who will be leading the Garinim during the BIE.

Keep an eye on the Federation’s Facebook page for BIE updates and photos over the next two weeks!
