Support Ukrainian Families Resettling in Buffalo

Help us reach our goal of $50,000!

On Monday, April 25, 2022, the federal government launched Uniting for Ukraine, a sponsorship initiative to allow U.S. residents to sponsor Ukrainian evacuees.  The initiative will enable up to 100,000 Ukrainians to temporarily enter the United States through this program.

Western New York expects two dozen or more families to arrive in the coming weeks. In anticipation of the significant needs of these families, we at the Federation in partnership with JFNA, the Shapiro Foundation, Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies (FJP) and a local philanthropist have already raised $200,000 and our community only needs to raise another $50,000 to enable Jewish Family Services of Western New York (JFS) to welcome Ukrainians in Buffalo.

Jewish Buffalo is a leader as one of the first Federation communities to launch a local resettlement effort.

In order to provide the necessary support for Ukrainian arrivals and their sponsors, JFS is hiring a Community Sponsorship Coordinator and a Mental Health Coordinator to ensure that Ukrainian arrivals receive logistical assistance and critical mental health support as they navigate their transitions to life in the United States (for more information about this effort through JFS, please email lmaguire@jfswny.org).

The need is great.  The strength of Jewish Buffalo is even greater.

With your help, JFS will be equipped to help these newest arrivals and show them that they are welcome in our community of good neighbors.
