This week, Federation proudly spotlights Ryan Piken as she concludes her time as the Springboard Fellow at Hillel of Buffalo.
A University at Buffalo alumna, Ryan first connected with Buffalo’s Jewish community through Hillel’s Jewish Learning Fellowship and internship programs. After discovering both a passion for professional growth and a deep love for Buffalo, she returned to Hillel full-time, spending the past two years giving back to the community that helped shape her.
During her time as a Hillel professional, Ryan built strong relationships with students becoming a trusted mentor and through countless conversations, coffee chats, and Jewish learning experiences.
Ryan credits much of her experience to the close-knit staff team at Hillel who fostered a collaborative and joyful environment.
“Ryan has made an incredible impact on our students and community,” said Mike Steklof, Executive Director, Hillel Buffalo. “Her authenticity and care created a warm, welcoming space at Hillel. We are so grateful for all she has given.”
She reflects most fondly on the everyday moments, conversations with students, Friday seltzer check-ins, and the vibrant space where students could simply be themselves.
While her time at Hillel has come to a close, Ryan will remain in Buffalo as an Account Executive at Cumulus Media to pursue her interest in working in the music industry. She looks forward to staying connected to Jewish life locally.
Ryan’s impact will be felt for years to come. Steklof shares that Hillel is deeply grateful for her dedication, leadership, and the many relationships she has built, and the community can’t wait to see what comes next for Ryan.
Ryan will be attending the Hillel of Buffalo Spring Celebration on May 5, from 6:30-8 pm at University of Buffalo’s North Campus in Student Union 210, the Landmark Room, which will give us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate her many contributions to Hillel over the past two years. Everyone is invited to attend. Click Here to RSVP. For more information, contact Dr. Mike Steklof, Executive Director at [email protected].
