This course is a welcoming exploration of Jewish beliefs, traditions, values, and culture. Designed for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of Judaism, including those who are exploring conversion, members of interfaith couples, and those who are curious to learn more. Through discussions on Shabbat, holidays, spirituality, ethics, Israel, Jewish history, and contemporary Jewish life, participants will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to live Jewishly today. Experiential opportunities, including a Shabbat dinner and a Hebrew session, will complement classroom learning. Tu Bishvat occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat and is known as the New Year of the Trees.
The 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar is the day that marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees. This day marks the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle.
