Tracie Zappia
June 6, 2025

This week, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Tracie Zappia, a vibrant and devoted member of our community.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Buffalo, Tracie grew up in a family where Jewish pride and identity were core values. Temple Emanuel was at the heart of her family’s Jewish life—its congregational warmth and spirited Hebrew School created the foundation for lifelong friendships. As Tracie reached Bat Mitzvah age, her world blossomed into a rich, Jewishly centered social life filled with record hops, Camp Lakeland summers, and sorority gatherings. Many of the friendships formed during that time remain strong to this day.

Tracie is the proud mother of two grown children, Alexa and Chad. Instilling in them a deep love of family, tradition, and Jewish identity has always been a guiding principle. Coming from an extended family of over 80 people, she grew up with the expectation that everyone would celebrate life’s simchas together—no matter the distance—and reconnect at least once a year.

Buffalo’s Jewish community has been a meaningful source of joy and connection throughout Tracie’s life. She served on the Board of Temple Beth Am (now Congregation Shir Shalom), and today she actively participates in Susan Schwartz’s Wise Women cohort and Midlife Engagement’s The Next Adventure. Through these programs, she has continued to build new friendships and nurture community.

Tracie is also known for her warmth and hospitality, graciously hosting these groups as well as many of Midlife Engagement’s monthly Shabbat dinners. In her own words: “Hosting is my love language… It is so important to me to make people feel warm and welcomed in my home. Bringing people together brings me joy.”

We’re grateful to have Tracie as part of our community—her spirit, warmth, and commitment to Jewish life are truly inspiring.
