This week we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on City Honors senior Syvonne Forgette!

At school, she is the founder, president, and advisor of Environmental Club; co-captain of varsity crew; and lead bassist in orchestra.   In the greater Buffalo Community, Syvonne volunteers as a Buffalo Ski Center Downhill Race coach and as a bassist in the Buffalo Bluegrass Ensemble. She received the Gold Star Award from the Girl Scouts of America and was recently named a Community All Star by Buffalo Business First.

Syvonne is also active in Jewish Buffalo. She is a presenter in the Student-to-Student Program a graduate of the Buffalo Jewish Teen Leadership Fellowship, attends Camp Seneca Lake and has helped plan many Teen Initiative Events.

Syvonne is especially proud of her participation in Student to Student where she enjoys sharing her Jewish identity with her non-Jews peers. In reflecting on her experience with Student to Student, Syvonne shared, “it’s definitely given me a different perspective on the world being part of a religious minority. With antisemitism on the rise, it’s so important to teach people like what Judaism is, [and] some of the different cultures and customs, especially people who have never met a Jewish person.”

Mazal Tov Syvonne on your graduation and your impact on the community.
