Building bridges and
creating moments of meaning.
For more than six decades, the Buffalo Jewish Federation has helped strengthen the State of the Israel. We are dedicated to ensuring that all of Israel’s citizens have equal access to educational and economic opportunity, and we work tirelessly to deepen connections between the Jewish State and the global Jewish community.
We stand by Israel’s side. Always.
Despite Israel’s economic success, one in five Israeli families lives in poverty. We provide a safety net for most vulnerable, and we advocate for those in distress. And, when Israel is threatened, we are part of a network that mobilizes to come immediately to her aid.
The money we raise during times of crisis—like the $55 million the Federation system of North America raised during and in the aftermath of the conflict in Israel in July 2014—helps keeps Israelis safe during conflicts and funds post-trauma counseling for tens of thousands living on the front lines.
And our system has helped hundreds of thousands of young Jews forge a personal connection to Israel through programs like Taglit-Birthright Israel, and built strong relationships in Israel and North America through Partnership2Gether (P2G).
The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies (FJP) provides grants to worthy Jewish high school and college aged students of Western New York who plan to participate in organized programs in Israel, such a synagogue youth tours, work study programs, kibbutz programs, high school abroad, and leadership development missions. To apply, an applicant must complete and submit a Scholarship Application, Personal Statement, References and Financial Statements.
Scholarships will be based upon financial need, demonstrated Jewish commitment, and participation in academic or extracurricular activities. All applications are reviewed by a volunteer committee composed of community representatives appointed by the foundation. The committee meets once a year, in early Winter, to make determinations.
BUILDING BRIDGES THROUGH P2G
Over the past 20 years, Partnership2Gether (P2G) has become Federations most successful and effective model for creating meaningful relationships between global Jewish communities and communities in Israel. Buffalo is part of a Mid-West consortium of communities as well as Budapest, Hungary that connects us to those living in the Western Galilee region of Israel. To date, we’ve welcomed leaders of the region to Buffalo to meet with professionals, volunteers and those outside of the Jewish community, including two representatives from the Budapest Jewish Community – Hedi Pusztai and Marton Tordai – who met with leaders from Nickel City Jews, PJ Library and agency leadership to learn more about the revitalization of Jewish life in their community.
