A New Ritual – The Art of Rachel Kanter

Join the JCC and visiting artist Rachel Kanter as we expand on the traditional use of a wimple as a Torah binder, and create one large communal art piece that represents the Buffalo Jewish community and becomes a “community binder” to be displayed and shared by the different Jewish Organizations in Buffalo. There Was No Silence is a documentary about JCC Rockland’s efforts to get a minute of silence for the 11 Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympics in 1972. There Was No Silence celebrates the power of never giving up, the importance of communities standing up for what is right and how JCC Rockland’s effort made a world-wide impact and created change. The JCC, in partnership with PJ Library, will share a special story celebrating the Jewish Holiday Shavout. Following the reading children can enjoy an ice cream sundae bar. Focusing on the Hebrew word Chesed, which means kindness or love between people, families can create paper flowers which will be donated to Cancer Patients at Roswell Park through the organization “Because Char Smiled”.
