What should I pack?
What are the COVID requirements?
We will follow COVID requirements determined by the Israel Ministry of Health and the Government of Canada for those traveling through Toronto. Currently Canada has ceased all COVID-19 border requirements, including vaccination, mandatory use of ArriveCAN, and any testing and quarantine/isolation requirements. Click Here to confirm the latest requirements. Additionally, there are no requirements of presenting a recovery or vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 test result in order to enter Israel. These requirements are subject to change based on recommendations from the Israel Ministry of Health and the Government of Canada. Can I book my own flights?
Yes, You are welcome to book your own flight or join the Federation staff on their flight:
- Air Canada Flight #80 – Departs Toronto on Wednesday, February 8 at 4:15 pm and arrives in Tel Aviv on Thursday, February 9 at 10:15 am (10 hours & 30 minutes)
- Air Canada Flight #81 – Departs Tel Aviv on Thursday, February 16 at 11:55 am and arrives in Toronto on Thursday, February 16 at 4:15 pm (12 hours)
If you plan to arrange your own air travel, you will be responsible for meeting the group in Israel (early afternoon in Jerusalem on Thursday, February 9) and all additional costs. The bus leaves for the first outing at 2 pm.
Note: Participants land costs are covered. Spouses/partners need to pay the land cost of $3,660/person double occupancy * (subject to change depending on 6 or 7 nights) and their flight.
Should I get a new passport?
To enter Israel, a passport valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entry is required.
Should I purchase travel insurance & supplemental medical coverage?
Yes! We urge you to purchase cancellation insurance & supplemental medical coverage (which covers preexisting conditions). We also recommend that you purchase COVID isolation coverage as part of the policy. This is a smart way to safeguard against life’s surprises.

What flights will the group take?
You are welcome to book your own flight or join the Federation staff on their flight:

What is the payment and refund schedule?
PAYMENT SCHEDULE (for Partner/Spouse)
Deposit of $250 due at time of registration
50% of Payment December 1, 2022
Full Payment January 15, 2023
$250 deposit per person (all participants) and completed registration due by October 14, 2022 to guarantee your spot on the trip and ground transportation.
REFUND SCHEDULE (for Partner/Spouse)
Deposit is fully refundable until January 15, 2023
Cancel by December 15, 2022 – Full Refund
Cancel between December 16, 2022 and January 12, 2023 – 75% of amount paid
Cancel between January 13 and January 23, 2023 – 50% of amount paid
Cancel between January 24 and February 1, 2023 – 25% of amount paid
Cancel on or after February 2, 2023 – No Refund
When is payment due?
Payment in full for Partner/Spouse is required by January 15, 2023. 50% payment of cost due by November 15, 2022.
Can I pay on a payment plan?
The Buffalo Jewish Federation does not offer payment plans. Please contact Stacey Block (stacey@buffalojewishfederation.org) to have a confidential conversation about financial options.
Who will be our tour guides?
We will be led by some of the best guides in Israel, including Ezra Korman and the Makor team.
Will there be a meeting in Buffalo before we travel to Israel?
Yes, there will be at least one (possibly two) gatherings in Buffalo before the trip starts in Israel on February 9, 2023.
Will there be free time to shop?
Yes! There will be a variety of different time(s) throughout the JCRC Civic Leader Trip when you can explore Israel on your own to dine, shop or walk around.
What is not included in the cost of the trip?
There are many opportunities to dine on your own throughout the JCRC Civic Leader Trip. You will be responsible for the cost of these meals. You will also be responsible for any additional costs incurred from travel extensions, and for all tips and gratuities. Please note that it is customary to provide tips for the tour guides and bus drivers; the total cost is approximately $12.00 per day per person.
