Shabbat Morning with Yonina
March 21 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Celebrate with us Shabbat HaChodesh, “Sabbath of the Month,” the Shabbat preceding the first of the Hebrew month of Nisan in which we celebrate Passover. It is said that on the first of Nisan God presented how to “sanctify the new moon” (kiddush hachodesh) for the onset of Rosh Chodesh, the new month. Thus Nisan becomes the first month of the Jewish year.
As always with Dr. Foster, this will be a learning, teaching experience along our journey through the Shabbat morning prayer service. Experience a contemplative approach that includes meditation, breathwork, sharing, and song, as we follow the order of tradition waking our bodies, offering praise and gratitude, through love and speaking to God through davenning, chant and stillness. Any suggested movement can be done from your chair.
Torah, with great gratitude to the Buffalo Jewish Federation for loaning theirs, reading will include three aliyot. Each one will be offered with a kavannah, inviting attendees to come up for an honor when feeling so called. Discussion will be included. Contact Dr. Foster if you would like to read or chant Torah or haftarah.
Torah portions are Vayakhel/Pekude. Vayakhel, “And He Assembled,” describes the building of the Mishkan, the holy temple while we wandered in the desert. Moses instructs us we must have a holy rhythm to our lives. What is yours? How do you build a holy space within? Pikudei, “Accounts,” of all the work and materials used to build the Mishkan and its dedication. Have you taken an accounting of your spiritual work? How have you acknowledged that accomplishment thus far?
Dr. Foster returned to Buffalo mid 2017 to rebuild her own inner spiritual life and Mishkan. She comes with rabbinic, cantorial, pastoral training, and a host of other skills to lead you through a gentle enriching Shabbat morning experience.
PLEASE RSVP to Dr. Foster at (301) 452-7847 or email@example.com.
Pot luck dairy will follow the service.
