Today, we are pleased to spotlight UB student Aaron Davis! Originally from Albany, Aaron is a sophomore sociology major and has made a home away from home for himself here in Buffalo. In addition to his studies, Aaron is an avid musician and singer-songwriter. In his freshman year, Aaron hosted a series of open mic nights for his peers with Hillel that provided the space for students to showcase their many talents, including playing instruments, singing, and standup comedy. Logan Woodard, Hillel’s Director of Engagement, said, “It was so great seeing the students who participated in the open mic nights share their passions with the Hillel community. We have so many talented students, and I am grateful that Aaron found a way to bring out those talents.”
This past semester, Aaron has been a song leader at Hillel Shabbats, where he combines his love of music and Judaism. In addition to leading Shabbat, Aaron participated in Hillel’s Jewish Learning Fellowship. Aaron is already working with Hillel staff to create a camping trip for students for the Spring semester. While reflecting on his experiences with Hillel, Aaron said, “I love Hillel because of the community and opportunities for student engagement.”
When he isn’t cheering on his beloved Mets, playing his guitar, or leading Hillel’s Shabbat services, Aaron can be found hosting a home-cooked meal for his friends.
